Thredbo has decided to ban tobogganing right before the start of the 2018 season.
The Thredbo toboggan ban less than two weeks from the opening of the ski season has caused an uproar after the ski resort released a statement on its website, preventing the use of toboggans and snow sliding equipment, citing safety concerns.
The decision is to “maximise safety for guests, employees, and resort property,” the statement read.
“Thredbo prohibits the use of toboggans and other miscellaneous snow sliding equipment that is associated with “Snow Play” within our leasehold area”. The decision sparked an angry backlash from families that have already booked accommodation at the resort.
Madarao – A Toboggan Safe Haven
Madarao Mountain Resort together with our neighbour Tangram Ski Circus (accessible on a dual mountain pass) caters for young families with two excellent snow play parks. The safely fenced off areas include magic carpet rides for the kids to get up the hill quickly and safely, real igloo’s, snowman making equipment, snow bikes, toboggan courses and our favourite the “banana boat” – pulled along a snow covered golf course on the back of a ski-doo.
Accessing the family only area is cheap and is within a 1-2 minute stroll from Kuma Lodge, should they kids get cold, tired, angry or hangry (that’s my child getting hungry and angry at the same time) it’s an easy wander back to the warmth of our lodge for a little R&R.
Love tobogganing, come play with us in the Japanese snow.
You might even see a Kuma Bear!
