About 12 months ago, I decided to organise a trip to Japan with a bunch of people. I came across Kuma Lodge via my FB feeds and I reached out to them to see what they could do for us (our group ended up being 21 people).
From our initial contact, Scott and I hit it off and we talked a lot as to how to make this a memorable trip for all. His knowledge and service focus matched my enthusiasm and he provided us with a very compelling itinerary for our time in Madarao Kogen. Lucky for us, we decided to go to Kuma Lodge in January 2018 and we are very pleased we did this.
Over the course of 2017, Scott and I maintained close contact as we refined our plans. Anything from internal transfers, to food choices (including catering as much as possible for people with food intolerances) to tours around the area, luggage delivery services, group dinners and many more, Scott provided us with sufficient information to make our choices.
When we arrived at Kuma Lodge, all the organisation was matched by flawless execution by Taka and Kumi. They both run the lodge on a day-to-day basis and are some of the nicest people we have ever come across. They made us feel welcome, gave us all the help, advice and assistance we needed and arranged for dinners, tours, rental cars and even hospital visits (unfortunately, but everyone is fine).
The lodge is beautifully appointed, recently renovated, easy to get around in and with all the amenities one can expect to feel at home. The breakfast was great, the advice and insight was spot-on and the fun, banter and laughs with everyone were plentiful.
Madarao Kogen is a great mountain and while surprisingly enough, we did not have the best snow when we were there (it is weather after all), the combination of a good group of people, a beautiful location and fantastic hosts ensured we had an excellent time.
Do yourself a favour. Get to Madarao Kogen and check out Kuma Lodge. It is excellent and you will not disappointed.
Thank you very much for a great time!
Kuma Lodge is a terrific place to stay when you want a ski in ski out Japanese experience. We couldn’t speak more highly of Taka-San and Sumi’s warm friendly and ever accommodating hospitality.
Thanks very much!
Great Lodge to spend some quality time with friends and or family with amazing snow. It is very easy to get to from Australia, leave at night and you could be snowing the next day. In addition to the slopes, the cultural experience is also a great bonus! I would highly recommend Kuma Lodge.
Kuma Lodge deserves nothing less than 5 stars for it's perfect location, hospitality, views and vibe. Well done Kuma keep up the great work!
Had a wonderful stay with friends at Kuma Lodge in Feb 2017. Excellent skiing only 2hrs by bullet train from Tokyo and a short 15min taxi ride to the lodge. You can land in Tokyo in the morning and be on the slopes about 4hrs later. The Lodge is recently renovated with crisp white sheets and excellent facilities. It's about as close as you can get to the beginner slopes (2min walk) and easily accessible to local bars and restaurants. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it.
Had an amazing time staying at Kuma Lodge in Fed 2017! Snow was incredible, the lodge was really clean and cosy, with super friendly staff and great views of the mountain. It also has the best position of all the lodges in the resort! We had fresh powder most days, and there was always fantastic skiing no matter the weather conditions.
We had the most incredible stay at Kuma Lodge for 7 days. The location, staff, rooms and vibe of the place were none other then the best!! Thank you so much Kuma Lodge for making our holiday the best yet and can't wait for next season to come back, but this time for longer!!!
We loved our time at Madarao and spent 8 days at Kuma Lodge. Couldn't ask for a closer spot for the slopes, great views from our cosy little room, friendly hosts and we loved the company of the different guests who came and went.
Kuma Lodge was comfortable, clean and cosy. The staff were very helpful and friendly. It's just a few meters to walk on to the slopes and I couldn't get over the view from our room everyday. Thanks for the stay!
